Climate Protection

Packaging with full sustainability

As an intergenerational family-owned company, preservation, long-term planning and sustainability are for us not just slogans, but part of the practised corporate strategy.

Our locations are climate-neutral. Climate neutrality covers all direct emissions produced within the VP Group including those produced through electricity and heat generation, by our fleet vehicles as well as fugitive gas emissions. It also covers indirect emissions from purchased energy and the related upstream supply chain, business trips, office paper, water, employee and external provider commutes and outbound logistics. Other indirect externally produced emissions do not fall under our commitment to climate neutrality. These include emissions produced during the manufacturing of raw materials, preliminary products and goods, external in-bound logistics-related emissions, those produced by using or disposing of products and emissions caused by other processes.

Since 2014, we are a member of "climate protection company. The climate and energy efficiency group of German Business e. V." Since the selection criteria are very strict, there are only a few climate protection companies in Germany.

Early on, we have switched our production to water-based printing inks and coatings as well as consistently optimised energy savings.

Perhaps our most important step was the development of a holistic climate strategy. Each year, we are calculating our CO2 footprint for the entire company as the basis for new savings targets.

Our goal

We want to further reduce CO2 emissions through ongoing process optimization and discover and use potential savings.

Our actions - an extract

Our result

We implemented major and smaller measures. In so doing, we reached the following results, for example:

  • 90 tons of CO2 per year are saved with our compressed air management
  • 30 tons of CO2 per year are saved by switching to LED intelligent control within our warehouse areas

We continue

To achieve our ambitious targets, we will implement further measures:

  • Further energy-efficiency measures in the reduction of energy consumption
  • Optimisation of thermal insulation
  • Minimising air leakage
  • Involving our suppliers to achieve our climate targets
  • Continuous involvement of employees in company suggestions

Our environmental partners and memberships:

Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V. - Association of Climate Protection Companies

Since 2014, we have been a member of the Association of Climate Protection Companies. The Association of Climate Protection Companies was launched in 2009 by the Ministry for Environment, the Ministry of Industry and the Chamber of Commerce to promote resource efficiency and energy efficiency in German companies. Only companies that have demonstrated to give excellent performance in terms of climate protection can become a member. Because of strict inclusion criteria, there are only a few climate protection companies in Germany. Whether a company is accepted or not is decided by an independent scientific advisory board, composed of representatives of the three initiators.

ClimatePartner

In order to implement our climate protection projects, we cooperate with the climate protection consultancy ClimatePartner, Munich. Climate experts organise individual climate protection solutions for more than 1,000 large and medium sized companies. In addition, the company is a TÜV-certified provider of IT system solutions for CO2 monitoring and compensation. ClimatePartner works closely with environmental organizations and represents members in various international committees.

Umwelt- und Klimapakt Bayern – Bavarian Environmental and Climate Pact

On October 1, 2020, the new Environmental and Climate Pact 2020 was signed by the top representatives of the Bavarian state government and the Bavarian economy. With the continued development of their tried and tested environmental partnership, which was established for the first time in 1995, the partners wish to set new trends in climate protection, develop solutions for dealing with other current environmental and sustainability issues and subsequently advance environmental and climate protection in companies and businesses. We have been involved in the newly named Environmental and Climate Pact since 2010. The initiatives and measures to strengthen personal responsibility and voluntary action in environmental protection in the Bavarian economy are summarised under its umbrella. The Environmental and Climate Pact manages to combine what is ecologically sound with what is economically profitable. With the topics of climate and energy, sustainable mobility, environmental technology and resource efficiency, the pact makes an important contribution to energy transition and climate protection.

Bundesdeutscher Arbeitskreis für Umweltbewusstes Management e.V. (B.A.U.M.)

To underline our claim to sustainable economic and ecological development, we joined the B.A.U.M. association in 2011 and commit to its code of honour. Under the abbreviation B.A.U.M., the Bundesdeutsche Arbeitskreis für Umweltbewusstes Management e.V., has connected economic, environmental and social issues, as well as the principles of sustainability since 1984. Today B.A.U.M. is, with more than 600 members, the largest environmental initiative of the European economy. It is the goal of B.A.U.M. to raise awareness for preventative protection of the environment and the vision of sustainable business performance amongst enterprises, municipalities and organisations. Besides, it also aims at supporting the ecologically efficient, economically reasonable and socially fair implementation of these principles.
